[Drama 2017] Woman of Dignity - Page 8 - k-dramas & movies

I just completed watching WOD and reading the few comments that in my opinions should have been at least in the hundreds if not thousands. It was a a show full of mature actors and its quality stood out. Too often the younger good looking actors are good eye candy but cannot really carry a show.

My views are in contrast with a lot of the views expressed in this forum. I was a Bok-ja fan from the beginning; it was obvious she was pining for a life completely opposite of the one she had become accustomed to and lived expertly. Her initial encounter with Ah-jin was her ticket to transmigrate from her lower-class status(?) The note Ah-jin wrote her gave her the impression that the rich had some sense of sensibility and class; however, she was not aware that Ah-jin started out from a lower class than her current status and that Ah-jin did not pursue wealth from a standpoint of greed. I don't think Bok-ja was greedy either I think she was hungry to escape her debilitating status.

In my opinion all of Bok-ja's efforts to advance in life were met with inopportune avenues, avenues of destruction. Losing her parents at a young age, living in an orphanage, being adopted and being returned to the orphanage must have been devastating to a young child. Surviving by her wits rather than by the guidance of an adult mentor left her to devise a scheme that led to her detriment. I thought it sad that it took Ah-jin so long too see her pain and come to her assistance. Granted, Bok-ja was not very helpful in presenting her underlying pain, however, between Ah-jin's reading of her infantile husband  and Ji -moo being a professional in psychology, someone should have seen or at least assessed her behavior and cry for help.

Ji-moo's behavior influenced Ah-jin's reaction to be less than her true nature. She was on the bandwagon that assaulted Bok-ja's existence, allbeit without the daggering invasion of the rest of the family. Frankly, I think Ji-moo is the real reason that Bok-ja became so semi-postal. Ji-moo's wrath was based on her on greed. She nor her husband's sister contributed to the wealth of the family and was only interested in getting her unfair share.

Let me shorten this by saying, Ah-jin did come to recognize Bok-ja's contribution to enriching the life of the old man for a season. Her brother-in-law, her two sisters-in-law and her infantile husband(not so much so) did not appreciate Bok-ja healing influence.

Before closing I have so say that Ah-jin had a mess to deal with on her own, including a bumbling infantile husband, a lustful suitor who inserted his influence in her life at time when she was vulnerable ( I know, I know most folks thought he was a true romantic knight in shing armor but he really was not, he fell in love with her at first sight just as her husband did and was very pushy about pursuing her; I'm glad the drama did not show him marrying her because I don't think he was good for her, far too arrogant and definitely a player; I would probably have done the same thing that's why I know it was not for Ah-jin's best interest but for his greed). I like Ah-jin's independence and her growth, apparently she and her daughter were the only ones in the family who were sufficiently mature. I do take exception about how she treated her husband and I believe she was more influential in his terrible behavior than most will acknowledge. From the very beginning( of the show) she was hostile towards him and treated him with some contempt.

There were no angels in this drama with maybe the exception of the young daughter. Everybody was a legitimate suspect, the acutal perp was not really a surprise. I hate that our somewhat honorable Ah-jin did not turn him in to the police, he deserved to be punished, hopefully he won't leave the mental institution without having to face the charges. Ah-jin's cover-up of his behavior is a blight on her character, which makes her an accessory after the fact.

I really enjoyed this drama and I had the intent to truly review it but chose to just yap about my observations, ha ha!

Both leading actresses are among my favorites.
