WASHINGTON (TND) — House Republicans subpoenaed Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on Friday for documents amid allegations she misused federal funds in Georgia.
Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, alleges that the committee has made three attempts to get Willis to respond involuntarily, which she has not.
He noted the committee wrote to Willis on August 24, 2023, September 27, 2023 and on December 5, 2023 "requesting documents" Fulton County has in its possession.
The subpoena is for documents for receipt and use of federal funds - not an appearance.
Willis is being asked to turn over all documents.
The federal grant issued by the U.S. Department of Justice was intended for the creation of a Center of Youth Empowerment and Gang Prevention, according to the letter sent to Willis Friday.
Jordan cited a recent report stating Willis' office "unlawfully" planned to use part of $488,000 grant intended to help at-risk youths to cover frivolous and unrelated expenses.
Willis is being watched closely for an alleged improper relationship with a special prosecutor she hired for the Georgia election interference case involving the former president, Donald Trump.
Trump has pleaded not guilty in the Willis-led case.
